TLC Outreach

"TLC Outreach" is a service of Progress Center's that provides limited home visits to families with typically developing toddlers and infants under the age of three years. Referrals come from agencies and clinics who serve infants and toddlers, though self-referring is encouraged.

Materials and education are provided to assist families in understanding brain development and how to provide an environment that promotes optimal development. Developmental charts, developmentally appropriate activities, and the newest research on infant and toddler brain development are just some of the materials offered during a home visit.

All families are referred to the Tracking Learning Children (TLC) program as a way to partner with families in monitoring the development of their children up to age five. Parents having concerns about their child's development will be referred on for further screening by the Progress Center. Referrals can be made to other community resources as well.

What does the TLC Program offer?
TLC helps parents track their child's development through questionnaires sent at regular intervals and at no charge.

How does it work?
Any child from four months to three years of age is eligible for the program. Parents answer questions about their child's communication, fine and gross motor, problem solving and personal social development. The form is returned in a pre-stamped envelope for review. This assessment is distributed at regular intervals during the child's development.

Parents are notified of the results by mail. If no developmental concerns are found, developmental information and activities are sent so parents can help their child reach the next milestone. If developmental concerns are noted, the parents are contacted by telephone and further assistance and screening are offered.

The program coordinator is available by phone to offer suggestions and answer questions.

How often will I receive the questionnaires?
They come at 4-month intervals until your child is 24 months of age. Then you will receive one at 27, 30, 33, 36, months.

Can I have more than one child on the tracking program at one time?
Yes! Many people have more than one child under the age of 36 months (3 years). The TLC program can help you track the development of all of them.

Many children are born with or acquire (due to illness, accident, or prematurity) conditions that prevent them from developing the same way as other children. Help is available.
